| Fighting Poverty with Profit |
| |
International
Development Enterprises (IDE) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization
and a small business. IDE has focused on eradicating poverty in the
poorest, rural regions of the world since its launching in 1981 by
emphasizing control of water – both potable and irrigation.
IDE has pioneered a market-based approach to smallholder farm income
generation that builds on local needs and local capacity in the private
sector. This enables poor farmers to increase their livelihoods through
the purchase and use of affordable, locally produced, income-generating
technologies. Finally, IDE completes the facilitation of long-term
income generation by analyzing markets for rural products and facilitating
permanent links between rural producers and the market. IDE employs
380 professionals globally; IDE’s geographic specialties include
India, the South Asian Crescent (Nepal and Bangladesh), Southeast
Asia (Vietnam and Cambodia), and Southern Africa (Zambia and Zimbabwe). |
