Bringing Safe Drinking Water and
Adequate Sanitation to the World |

Water
For People is the charity of choice for the North American water industry,
especially the largest professional associations in the world, such
as the American Water Works Association, Water Environment Federation,
and the Water Quality Association. Water For People was organized
in 1991 and has increased the number of countries, projects and people
served over the years. Water For People helps people to help themselves
through the use of community development, training, health and hygiene
education and collaboration. Our program approach has been sustainable
because we teach people to do the work themselves and when they are
ready, we provide training, technical assistance, materials and education.
WFP communities feel that the work is accomplished through their efforts
and not because others have done the work for them. We also build
capacity by training NGOs to expand and carry out the work as we look
for new areas to assist. With needs increasing around the world, Water
For People is taking new approaches by working with the urban poor,
bringing water professionals from developing countries to the U.S.
for leadership development and finding technical assistance and training
opportunities for North American water professionals to make a difference
around the world. Water For People employs 20 people and has offices
in Honduras, Guatemala, Malawi, and Bolivia. In addition, Water For
People works and fields volunteers in South America, Africa, and Southeast
Asia. |
