Afghanistan once boasted irrigation systems that were able to transform desert into productive land. In the past 20 years, these irrigation systems have suffered from the ravages of war and neglect. To help Afghanistan rebuild its irrigated agriculture sector, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is implementing the multi-phased program Assisting Afghanistan to Revitalize Irrigated Agriculture.
