Technical assistance focuses on reducing the environmental impacts of nitrates, phosphates, and other pollutants from agricultural sources to improve the quality of surface and ground waters in the Calarasi judet on the Danube River and Black Sea. DAI is working to reverse water degradation, which not only has a negative environmental impact but also has financial consequences, with depleted fish stocks, deteriorating agriculture, declining tourism, and increasing health costs adversely affecting the economy. This activity also strengthens the capacity and sustainability of institutions in the Calarasi judet to monitor soil and water testing, comply with environmental requirements, and implement actions that will lead to improvement of water and soil quality.
